The VT01 boasts a compact size of 6.1 x 2.56 x 5.98 inches, ensuring its super small footprint at just 1.53 liters. The case looks great in silver and is well-constructed with 0.8mm SECC steel, giving it a sturdy feel. This is no doubt one of the smallest options available.
Compatibility isn’t great here due to just how small this case is. It is specifically designed for Intel Mini-STX mobos, and there is a need for an ultra-low-profile CPU cooler, a difficult task for premium CPUs. There is also, as expected, only one slot for a 2.5” storage drive.
So, while you won’t build a high-performing PC inside, this case is going to shine as a small server setup or terminal, perhaps an arcade box, a media storage device for household access or a plex server, and other specialized uses of that nature. You simply do not have room for high-end hardware or anything fancy. This is meant to give you the smallest package possible.
With vents on the top and sides, there is a lot of passive cooling. However, there is no room for any kind of liquid cooling or extra fans beyond the CPU cooler. This should be an indicator of the type of hardware meant to be housed in a case like this one.
Some other notable features include VESA MIS-D 75 call mount clips, allowing for all sorts of placement options. The case also features USB-C and USB-A 3.0 ports on the front panel for basic connectivity.
The downside for some might be the incredibly specific use case this is marketed for. There are not many things that fit in this case until you start looking into the niche hobbies and server or terminal needs. The design of the A01 is sleek and modern, with minimalism. The materials used, a tempered glass side panel and SECC steel construction, feel premium to the touch, suggesting a build quality that’s meant to last. The total dimensions are 200 x 200 x 75 mm with a volume of 3 liters, and the included rubber feet add 8mm in height.
In terms of compatibility, the case is designed to accommodate Mini ITX motherboards, and the highly compact nature of the case implies that you need to be extra selective with your components. You’ll be limited to an APU (no dedicated graphics card), a low-profile CPU cooler (max height of 50mm), low-profile RAM, and passive cooling.
Speaking of which, airflow and cooling are critical in such a compact space. One can infer that the A01 has made provisions for efficient airflow to prevent overheating; however, with such a small package, thermals will entirely depend on the components you have within.
This is a fantastic HTPC, but trying to run a high-powered APU in here will only come back to bite you. There simply isn’t enough room to properly cool premium hardware.

The RAIJINTEK Ophion 7L is another extremely small PC case that’s worth considering. It’s reasonably priced and offers a lot for the money–Quality, aesthetics, and enough room for a beefier gaming rig in a compact size you can take anywhere with you.
The Ophion 7L has a compact volume of just 7 liters, making it one of the smallest SFF cases available to house a dedicated graphics card. In addition to that, it can accommodate a Mini-ITX motherboard, an SFX power supply, up to three 92-millimeter fans, and a low-profile single-slot graphics or expansion card.
The case is well-constructed using steel and aluminum, resulting in a 2-kilogram frame that is lightweight, durable, and stylish. In terms of dimensions, the case measures 101 mm (W) x 255 mm (H) x 312 mm (D). Being that the case is so small and lacks meaningful cable management features, it might not look super clean on the inside, but extra component compatibility makes up for it.
The front connectors comprise 1x USB 3.1 Type-C and 1x USB 3.0 Type-A, providing standard plug-and-play options. Inside the rig, you get some extra CPU cooler room with an available height of 70mm, as well as two 2.5” storage bays. This is all pretty standard for a case this size, but the extra CPU cooler room means better cooling for a more powerful CPU.
Airflow and cooling are just right, but you likely won’t need much to begin with. You can fit two 92mm fans on the top and another on the bottom, but there is no radiator support for liquid cooling. This will be fine for the components intended, but if you stick a powerful CPU in here, you may encounter some thermal challenges if you are not well prepared.
With that being said, the two biggest downsides of this PC case are cable management and thermals. Thermals shouldn’t be an issue if you stick to low-powered CPUs (max Ryzen 7 or Intel i7) and buy three decent fans (there are no fans pre-installed). On the other hand, cramming all the cables in the limited space behind the motherboard tray is a hassle.

Its look is very different than your usual PC case, and while you won’t be putting an expansion card in here, it does take up a very small footprint with style. You can stand this up vertically or lay horizontally, depending on your preference, and it is just as sturdy either way, thanks to its wide feet.
In terms of construction, the case is mostly made from matte black ABS plastic, which doesn’t give off a premium feel but is fairly sturdy. It also features a smoked tempered glass window that allows for a peek inside but also does a good job of hiding messy cables thanks to its darker tint.
Furthermore, the B1 comes with a built-in power supply rated for 200W at 80 Plus Gold. The case is specially tailored for a small setup requiring no expansion card, and this PSU is designed to fit like a glove. There are also two 2.5” storage slots and a motherboard cutout for easy access to your M.2 drive.
Airflow and cooling aren’t a problem either, with a preinstalled 80mm fan and up to 60mm height for CPU cooling. The absence of any GPU significantly reduces heat and allows this to support a mid-range CPU without any issues.
The front panel is subtle, with only a single USB port and a combined audio jack; plus, the power button is seamlessly hidden as part of the grooves in the case, which is a nice touch.

There are less expensive options that provide far more features, but the value comes from the very compact nature, shape, presentation, built-in power supply, and pre-installed fan. Lian Li is a beloved brand in the gaming community and is mainly known for making top-quality cases and coolers. The Lian Li A4-H20 is one of the company’s smallest PC cases, which was born from a partnership with the small German manufacturer DAN.
It’s a premium offering with a premium price tag that offers top-notch build quality, clean and minimalistic design, and an extremely compact footprint with the ability to house powerful gaming hardware.
Measuring 326mm in depth, 140mm in width, and 244mm in height, the A4-H2O is compact yet still able to house GPUs up to 322mm in length (with included riser cable for vertical mounting). It features a steel structure with an aluminum exterior, combining a sleek look and durability. Because of the quality materials at play, it’s got some heft to it, weighing almost 3 kilograms (6.4 pounds).
Additionally, the chassis is compatible with mini-ITX motherboards and allows CPU coolers as tall as 55mm, as well as liquid cooling options. However, it is designed for the smaller, slightly more expensive SFX or SFX-L power supply units. This is important to remember if you are looking to transfer parts and don’t already have one.
Storage support is very limited, as the case only has one internal 2.5” drive bay, which is odd given that some much smaller cases still support 3.5” drives. This is a common trade-off in SFF cases, but still seems like a missed opportunity not officially supporting a 3.5” drive.
On the contrary, thermals and airflow are not a huge concern here. The case supports both air and liquid cooling; however, the 240mm top radiator slot is a must if you plan on running a higher-end processor. While it does not come with any fans, there are two optional 120mm fan slots. The case also features a lot of ventilation holes and meshed panels for improved airflow.
The I/O panel is located conveniently on the side panel and features a USB 3.2 Type-C port, a USB 3.0 port, and a pair of Mic/Audio 3.5mm jacks. Besides that, the side panels also have snap-on mechanisms for easy assembly and toolless removal.
Value is on par here as well. The price is a bit higher, but the brand does have a good reputation, and while lacking in storage options and requiring a more expensive PSU, it does offer good airflow, vast compatibility, quality build, and clean aesthetics. In my opinion, it is worth its price for the target market.
If you are an enthusiast or SFF builder looking to cram premium components into a compact space or looking to build a powerful gaming rig in a small package, this would be our top recommendation.

With dimensions of 222.5mm (W) x 222.5mm (D) x 224mm (H), this case is about as small as you can get while still fitting up to five 3.5” HDDs comfortably inside, with decent cooling. Although it is possible to add an expansion card, only the smallest, single-slot cards will be compatible.
The external construction of the case is made of 2mm aluminum alloy, while the bones are a 1mm steel setup. This makes for a durable build and helps it keep a sleek look. In addition to that, the interior design is very well thought out and makes building a breeze, even for inexperienced builders.
Now, being primarily designed for mini-ITX mobos, your maximum CPU cooler height is 65mm, and the expansion slot is limited to a low-profile GPU of up to 197mm in length. This will all be just fine for a standard NAS or media server but won’t help you with any kind of graphics generation.
The cooling is about on par for a standard SFF NAS case, and the case does come with a large 120mm fan preinstalled. However, there is not much room for additional cooling fans, and you will rely on the vented panels for passive cooling.
Some additional features you’ll appreciate include a magnetically detachable front panel, providing effortless access to storage and making hot-swapping easier than ever. Each of the hard drives plugs into a standard combined data connector on a single backboard. There’s also a Type-A and Type-C USB port, as well as audio jacks on the front panel for plug-and-play options.
One of the drawbacks that glare at us here is the lack of SATA cables included in the package, and you will want to purchase or source angled SATA due to the size constraints.
In terms of value, you won’t be disappointed with the construction and feature set; however, there are slightly cheaper options with similar features, even if not presented as conveniently. If you are looking for a solid NAS or home server setup, this is a great choice that provides convenience and easy setup for a slightly higher price.
This is a highly recommended investment, being that it excels in all the right areas. If you are setting up a NAS or home server, even if it’s your first one, you can’t go wrong here. The SG13 is a solid contender in the small form factor world and one of SilverStone’s most popular mini-ITX cases. It’s cheap, efficient, compact, and yet just large enough to fit most GPUs inside. It also comes in a number of variants, such as a mesh or solid front panel, and multiple colors, including white, black, and pink variants.
Generally, you should expect to fit most of your components without too much hassle, but it can be a bit awkward at times, depending on the use case and GPU size. The largest of GPUs will not fit, but nearly all dual-fan cards will be fine, with the cases supporting GPUs of up to 10.6 inches. At the same time, it takes up a small footprint at 222mm (W) x 181mm (H) x 285mm (D), with an 11.5-liter belly.
The construction itself is mostly aluminum, which feels strong and durable while also being fairly lightweight at 5.5 pounds. The case also features rubber feet to keep it sturdy, and the overall presentation is clean, although not very striking.
Now, the SG13 is compatible with ITX builds, and while it does fit a sizeable GPU, full-size ATX power supply, and can accommodate air cooling or AIO liquid coolers up to 140mm, there is only one spot for a 3.5” drive. If you’re using smaller 2.5” SSDs, the case can house up to three of them or one 3.5” and one 2.5” drive simultaneously.
One feature we like is the dustpan for the front mesh if you choose that version, allowing for easy cleaning without removing any components. However, a feature we missed is an included fan with the case. This is okay, though, as it keeps the price a little lower, and you’ll probably want to source a high-quality fan anyway to manage your thermals in a compact space.
The only other pain point here is that there is a very specific build order you have to follow to get everything fit in the case properly. Removing a single component may likewise involve removing a few other components, too, even if it’s just an HDD.
Overall, the SilverStone SG13 is a great SFF case and our recommendation for mainly gamers looking for a small, cheap, but functional chassis. You might prefer to spend a little extra to get a slightly more practical build experience, but it does its job well once everything is put together.
If you are looking for a compact chassis that can just barely fit a powerful GPU and you don’t need additional storage options, this might just be the perfect case for you, especially for the money. On the other hand, if you don’t plan on using a GPU at any point, there are smaller and easier-to-build-in options.

The Fractal Design Ridge emerges as a successor to the Node 202 as a quality briefcase-style PC case meant for tight spaces and easy transportation. It is a good fit for anyone who prioritizes size, slim shape, and functionality.
This case comes in at 374 x 395.4 x 110 mm, but without any protrusions or legs, and with thumbscrews removed, it can squeeze down to 374 x 355 x 94.6 mm. It totals 12.59 liters in belly room, ensuring that you can barely squeeze in a nice GPU while being extremely compact and thin.
In terms of design, it’s not too much to look at, but the functionality and thought put into the design are great. The front panel is a mix of aluminum and cloth, while the side panels are constructed from steel, giving it a durable frame and allowing for good airflow through the front. More to come on cooling later.
In terms of compatibility, mini-ITX mobos and GPUs up to 335mm in length if you have no SSDs installed are supported, with the CPU cooler height being capped at 70mm. This allows you to use some premium components, but be careful not to bite off more thermal production than you can dissipate.
Furthermore, a very nice feature is the ample space for storage, with four 2.5” SSD drive bays. While not required by everyone, this is a very nice touch as most SFF cases this size will only have one or two slots at most.
Moving onto airflow and cooling, the case comes with two 140mm PWN Aspect fans, with mounts for extra fans on top. It also supports liquid cooling in the form of a 120mm AIO on the side. The airflow is good enough, but keep in mind that if you’re installing a higher-end GPU, you will need to populate all of the available slots to cool this case properly.
That leads me to the main downside: noise. If you did install a GPU and find yourself running at full capacity, you certainly will hear about it. It won’t be like an airplane next to you or anything egregious, but it would be enough to hear through your closed-back headset.
A few extra features include toolless SSD installation, captive thumbscrews for toolless panel access, and a front I/O equipped with two USB 3.0 ports, a USB-C 3.1 Gen2, and a 3.5mm combo jack.
Value-wise, it’s not bad. While some may prefer something a little cheaper for this size, the quality of the pre-installed fans, the briefcase design, and the engineering to squeeze in a decent GPU, make this a fair-value purchase.

Cable management is a bit easier than average, thanks to the hot-swappable SAS chip that connects all the hard drives, reducing clutter. The main downside is the price. It is a highly desirable case without question, but is it worth such an investment for such a small environment?
Let’s just say you are not paying solely for the case materials and assembly; you are paying for the 5 hard drive hot swappable configuration paired with the SAS chip to accommodate it and some extra room for expansion and cooling. The convenience is such that is hard to come by, and by filling the hole in that market so well, you do have to pay a little extra to get it.

The storage support, however, is minimal. The case can only house a single 2.5” drive, and there isn’t room for a 3.5” HDD. Plus, the case can only hold SFX and SFX-L power supplies.
While the chassis doesn’t come with preinstalled fans, the design allows for efficient airflow, especially when paired with an AIO liquid cooler at full size. If liquid cooling is not your cup of tea, you’ll have space for up to two 140mm fans at the top. The mesh side panels are a bit dense, and we recommend taking them out for better airflow if you decide to go fanless.
On top of all this, you also get toolless access/entry, a couple of dust filters, RGB lighting, noise-dampening slots, and, most importantly, room for premium components when spread to full size. Despite the higher price, you get a lot of features; the value here is superb.

At only 412 x 239 x 175 mm, it’s a wonder you can fit a sizeable GPU in here, but at the expense of some cable management difficulty.
Compatibility is also a strong suit of this case. It only supports mini-ITX motherboards, but you can accommodate a reasonable GPU size of 320mm long and 2.5 slots thick, CPU coolers of up to 134mm in height, and two 2.5” SSDs or one standard 3.5” storage drive. You also require an SFX or SFX-L PSU, meaning slightly more expensive for a more compact product.
As you may have guessed from the panels, airflow is a point of focus here. There is space inside for two 120mm fans or a 240mm radiator; plus, you get a preinstalled 92mm fan at the top to assist.
Together, this makes for a decent cooling system, and while thermals may be difficult to tame with premium hardware, using a good AIO liquid cooler in combination with high-quality fans will be enough to keep it from throttling. If you find yourself needing more airflow, make sure to take out the dust filters, as they’re pretty dense and may cause some trouble with higher-power components.

The Thermaltake Core V1 is another popular SFF case, and that’s mainly because of its competitive price tag. This cube-shaped PC case combines quality, cooling, and affordability very well, allowing gamers to build a high-performing, even water-cooled rig on a tight budget.
While it can’t quite compete with the smallest PC cases, it is still one of the most compact options available. In terms of dimensions, the case measures 276 x 260 x 316 mm and weighs in at 7 pounds (3.2 kilograms). It’s well-constructed, but because it’s mostly made of thin SPCC (cold-rolled steel), it’s not as sturdy as the more premium cases.
Because of the cube shape and slightly bigger size, the component compatibility is excellent. You’ll be able to fit just about any mini-ITX setup you can think of, including GPUs up to 285mm in length, CPU coolers up to 140mm in height, a full-size ATX power supply, and multiple fans.
Speaking of fans, there is a giant 200mm intake fan installed at the front, and the case also supports two additional 80mm fans at the back. If you have a traditional CPU cooler, you’ll also have that fan assisting with the airflow, plus the GPU has its private ventilation on the side of the case if you don’t put a window panel in front of it. It is safe to say that you will have plenty of airflow.
In addition, the extra space at the top of the case also provides ample room for water cooling systems. This works nicely with the GPU’s private ventilation as you don’t have to worry about air obstruction from an advanced cooling system, especially with the large fan spinning away at the front. Storage support is also great, with two hidden 3.5”/2.5” drive bays.
When it comes to drawbacks, we haven’t found anything major. There isn’t much space for cable management, but that’s an issue you’ll be dealing with when building in any SFF PC case. Additionally, since this is an older case, the I/O panel is missing a USB type-C port, but you get two standard USB type-A ports instead for some basic connectivity.
Overall, this is an excellent option as a small form factor case that can easily house advanced systems in a small and well-cooled environment. It isn’t the absolute smallest thing around, but it isn’t too far off and is perfect for a few different uses while keeping it simple and budget-friendly.
