ARCTIC Liquid Freezer II 280

REASONS TO BUY

  • Excellent cooling performance
  • Very quiet operation
  • High-quality and durable build
  • PWM controlled fans
  • Clean, aggressive design
  • Fairly priced
  • 6-year warranty

REASONS TO AVOID

  • No RGB

Our Rating:   9.9/10

While many AIO coolers offer flashy RGB LEDs, the ARCTIC Liquid Freezer II 280 forgoes that convention in favor of raw cooling performance and noise reduction. ARCTIC’s investment in performance pays off, as the Liquid Freezer II provides the best performance per dollar out of any 280mm AIO on the market.

The complete lack of RGB may be a downside for some, especially for those looking to color-match with the rest of their builds. However, that doesn’t mean that the Liquid Freezer II 280 is an unattractive cooler. It’s painted in matte black and features metallic detailing on its hoses, giving the cooler a utilitarian aesthetic that differentiates it from others on the market.

As far as compatibility goes, you get support for the majority of modern CPUs out of the box. On the AMD side, this cooler interfaces with the newest AM5, as well as AM4, AM3, and so forth. It readily connects with most Intel sockets, including the LGA 115X, 1200, and 1700, plus the square ILM 2011-3 and the square ILM 2066. That’s good for the vast majority of CPUs on the market today.

In terms of build quality, The Freezer II features high-quality and robust components, meaning this cooler should last you a long time. The copper cooling plate is milled smooth, and the hoses are reinforced and coated to prevent kinking and leakage. The pump head itself is very solid and even features a small fan to aid with cooling your motherboard’s VRMs, something that speaks to this AIO cooler’s performance aspirations.

Furthermore, its cooling performance is incredible. A test on an Intel i7 clocked at 4.2 GHz revealed the ARCTIC Liquid Freezer II 280 is the best-performing cooler in its class, posting comparable numbers to bigger, 360mm AIO coolers. It manages this impressive cooling performance while staying relatively quiet as well, not going over 30 dBA under full load.

On top of its excellent performance and low noise levels, you’re also covered by a 6-year warranty. This is the longest coverage out of any liquid cooler manufacturer out there, only matched by NZXT, which speaks to how confident Arctic is in the quality of their coolers.

While some PC builders will balk at the lack of RGB LEDs, if you value performance and low noise levels above everything else, this is by far your best option. And the best part? It’s competitively priced and represents an amazing value for money compared to most of the competition.

2. NZXT Kraken Z63

Radiator Dimensions: 315 x 143 x 30 mm / 12.4 x 5.6 x 1.2” | Fans Dimensions: 140 x 140 x 26 mm / 5.5 x 5.5 x 1” | Fan Speed: 500 – 1800 RPM (PWM) | Noise Volume: 21 – 38 dBA | Warranty: 6 years

NZXT Kraken Z63

REASONS TO BUY

  • Excellent cooling performance
  • High-quality construction
  • All-black design
  • Maximum customization with CAM software
  • LED screen for temperature readouts and customization
  • PWM controlled fans
  • 6-year warranty

REASONS TO AVOID

  • Premium price
  • No RGB

Our Rating:   9.8/10

Like the popular Kraken X-series, the NZXT Kraken Z63 features also features a unique pump head but takes it to the next level.

Kraken’s AIO coolers are some of the best-looking AIO coolers on the market. Their mirror-topped coolers are incredibly eye-catching and have received rave reviews for their unique aesthetic. On the Z63, Kraken raises the bar even higher, offering a 2.6-inch LED screen on top of the pump head.

This screen displays real-time temperature readouts or can be configured to display an image of your choosing. While there’s no RGB to speak of, the customization the LED screen can provide is second to none.

The LED screen, as well as the rest of the cooler, can be controlled by NZXT’s integrated CAM software. With CAM, you’ll be able to control and monitor just about everything, including adjusting the fan and pump speed, customizing the LED screen, as well as creating different cooling profiles. It’s the most complete software package provided with an AIO cooler.

When it comes to build quality, the Z63 is among the very best. The hoses are sleeved in nylon for added protection and look sleeker and more sophisticated than regular rubber hoses. Additionally, the radiator is 30mm thick and features a dual-channel design for improved water flow and cooling potential.

In line with other AIO coolers, the installation of the Kraken Z63 is very simple and straightforward. The only thing to keep in mind regarding installation is the rigidity of the hose fittings, as they won’t bend or pivot easily. Otherwise, builders of all skill levels won’t have any issues installing this cooler.

Further, the NZXT Kraken Z63 boasts a high level of compatibility and easily interfaces with virtually every modern processor, including the Intel LGA 1700, 1200, 1151, 1150, 1155, 1156, 1366, 2011, 2011-3, and 2066, as well as the AMD AM5, AM4, TR4, and STRX4.

Performance-wise, the Z63 is a powerhouse. While it doesn’t have the raw cooling ability that the Liquid Freezer II possesses, it is right on its heels. In a test performed on an Intel i9 running at 3.6 GHz, the NZXT Kraken Z63 cooled the PC to 6.1°C over ambient at idle and 27.6°C under load.

It’s clear that the NZXT Kraken Z63 is an extremely well-performing 280mm cooler that will cool just about any CPU, even if you’re overclocking. However, due to its higher price, the performance per dollar is not that impressive, especially when you compare it to the Arctic Liquid Freezer II 280 (our #1 recommendation).

With that being said, the Kraken Z63 is still one of the best 280mm AIO coolers on the market. It’s certainly not a budget option and is aimed at the enthusiast crowd that has money to invest in their build. And if that’s you, the performance, quality, and the extra LED screen for readouts and customization are definitely worth the investment. Plus, the industry best 6-year warranty will give you extra peace of mind.

3. Corsair iCUE H115i Elite Capellix

Radiator Dimensions: 322 x 137 x 27 mm / 12.7 x 5.4 x 1.1” | Fans Dimensions: 140 x 140 x 25 mm / 5.5 x 5.5 x 1” | Fan Speed: Up to 2000 RPM (PWM) | Noise Volume: 10 – 36 dBA | Warranty: 5 years

Corsair iCUE H115i Elite Capellix

REASONS TO BUY

  • Top-of-the-line performance
  • Vibrant RGB on both pump and fans
  • PWM controlled fans
  • High-quality construction
  • 5-year warranty
  • Integrated iCue software

REASONS TO AVOID

  • Premium price
  • Noisier under load

Our Rating:   9.7/10

Corsair has long been a leader in the AIO cooler market, offering impressive designs and top cooling performance. The Corsair iCUE H115i Elite Capellix adds vibrant RGB lighting to their highly decorated Capellix series and is another fantastic 280mm AIO from their lineup.

The H115i Elite Capellix boasts an impressive amount of RGB and gives this cooler a flashy and modern look, featuring 33 LEDs on its pump and fans. While this style might not be for everyone, there’s no denying how striking it looks nestled inside a tower.

Additionally, the H115i Elite Capellix comes with Corsair’s iCue software, allowing for extra customization and full control over the cooler. With iCue, you’ll be able to customize the light setup, change the fan and pump speed, and monitor the temperature of your CPU. The software is well-arranged and easy to use, certainly one of the best on the market.

As far as compatibility goes, you’ll be all set if you’re running a modern machine. The Elite Capellix is compatible with Intel 1700, 1200, 1150, 1151, 1155, 1156, 1366, 2011, and 2066 sockets. As for AMD, it interfaces with the AMD AM5, AM4, AM3, AM2, sTRX4, and sTR4 sockets.

Cooling-wise, the H115i performs incredibly well. In one test on an Intel Core i9 clocked at 3.8 GHz, it cooled the PC to 8°C over ambient at idle and 31°C over ambient under load. When the clock speed was increased to 4.5 GHz, the Elite Capellix continued to perform solidly, cooling the machine to 8°C over ambient at idle and to 55°C under 100% load.

In this test, it outperformed the Kraken X62 and its Corsair cousin, the H115 RGB Pro XT. While all of these coolers were within 5°C of one another, the Elite Capellix swept the competition and posted the best cooling numbers in every test iteration.

While its performance is great, the Corsair iCUE H115i Elite Capellix’s sound dampening is only middling. Under heavy load, its fans get quite loud. You can, however, disable the fans for near-silent operation at idle.

Overall, the Corsair iCUE H115i Elite Capellix is a fantastic 280mm AIO cooler. It will keep any high-end CPU cool with ease while looking super stylish in your case. If you’re looking for a reliable, high-performing 280mm AIO cooler bedecked with RGB, you’ll be hard-pressed to find anything better.

4. Corsair iCUE H115i RGB Pro XT

Radiator Dimensions: 322 x 137 x 27 mm / 12.7 x 5.4 x 1.1” | Fans Dimensions: 140 x 140 x 25 mm / 5.5 x 5.5 x 1” | Fan Speed: Up to 2000 RPM (PWM) | Noise Volume: 10- 36 dBA | Warranty: 5 years

Corsair iCUE H115i RGB Pro XT

REASONS TO BUY

  • Fantastic cooling performance
  • Impeccable build quality
  • PWM controlled fans
  • RGB LEDs on the pump head
  • Comes with iCue software
  • 5-year warranty

REASONS TO AVOID

  • Noisier under load
  • No RGB on the fans
  • Higher price

Our Rating:   9.6/10

The Corsair iCUE H115i RGB Pro XT is another great 280mm AIO cooler in the long and storied line of Corsair AIO coolers. This cooler shares a lot in common with the iCUE H115i Elite Capellix, but there are some notable differences.

While the Elite Capellix offers a full package of RGB, the Corsair iCUE H115i RGB Pro XT only features it on its pump head. While this is a slight downside for someone looking for a colorful, enthusiast-focused build, you’ll save a bit of money by tolerating the less flashy fans. Plus, you can always replace the stock fans with RGB fans in the future.

Further, the Corsair iCUE H115i RGB Pro XT fully interfaces with Corsair’s iCue software. With the software, you can control this AIO’s fan and pump speed, RGB light setup, and get a real-time temperature readout. Its inclusion is a welcome sight, as iCue is one of the best pieces of software for cooler management.

Additionally, the build quality of this H115i is exquisite. Its hoses are sleeved in nylon, which not only looks good but also helps preserve their longevity. Another upside of this AIO is its slim radiator, which is only 27mm thick, so it will easily fit into any compact build.

Most AIO radiators are around 30mm, but Corsair gets away with such a slim design by packing the radiator with an impressive 20 fins per square inch, much higher than a usual radiator. Corsair’s commitment to quality is evident with this cooler and the features and innovations it possesses.

Additionally, this cooler is compatible with all modern CPUs. It supports Intel’s LGA 1700, 1200, 1150, 1151, 1155, 1156, 1366, 2011, and 2066 sockets. If you’re an AMD user, you can use this cooler with the AM5, AM4, AM3, AM2, sTRX4, and sTR4 sockets.

On the performance front, you’ll find the H115i RGB Pro XT to be a quality running mate, even if it’s not the best in its class. In a test performed on an Intel Core i9, the Corsair H115 kept the machine running at 35°C at idle and 72°C under full load. As a benchmark, the Corsair AIO was within 3°C of the temperature posted by the class-leading Arctic Liquid Freezer II at idle and within 1°C under load.

The Corsair iCUE H115i RGB Pro XT is not quite at the top of the heap when it comes to cooling capabilities; that crown still belongs to the Arctic, but it can be paired with high-end CPUs, such as the Ryzen 9s or Intel i9s, no problem – A few degrees matter very little in the long run.

All in all, the Corsair iCUE H115i RGB Pro XT is another cooler we highly recommend to gamers and power users. It features top cooling performance, high component quality, and a fair price tag. Coupled with the intuitive iCue software and a 5-year warranty, you cannot go wrong with this one.

5. DeepCool Castle 280EX

Radiator Dimensions: 322 x 138 x 27 mm / 12.7 x 5.4 x 1.1” | Fans Dimensions: 140 x 140 x 25 mm / 5.5 x 5.5 x 1” | Fan Speed: 400 – 1600 RPM +/-10% (PWM) | Noise Volume: Up to 40 dBA | Warranty: 3 years

DeepCool Castle 280EX

REASONS TO BUY

  • Great cooling capabilities
  • Quiet even under heavier loads
  • Good build quality
  • PWM controlled fans
  • RGB pump head
  • Reasonable price
  • Easy to install

REASONS TO AVOID

  • Shorter warranty
  • Plain design
  • There are better options available

Our Rating:   9.5/10

DeepCool continues to wade into the AIO cooler market with their latest 280mm offering, the DeepCool Castle 280EX.

Featuring on-trend RGB on its pump head, the DeepCool Castle 280EX will certainly look great in your tower. It also boasts intricate designs on its fan blades; however, the fans themselves are not decorated with RGB. The rest of the AIO is painted glossy black, in line with most other coolers. It’s nothing earth-shattering design-wise, but it definitely feels high-quality.

This cooler is compatible with virtually all modern sockets, including the Intel 2066, 2011-3, 2011, 1151, 1150, 1155, 1200, 1700, and 1366. On the AMD side, you’ll be able to pair the Castle 280EX with the AMD TRX4, TR4, AM5, AM4, AM3+, AM3, AM2+, AM2, FM2+, FM2, and FM1.

Installation of the DeepCool Castle 280EX should be simple. You’ll need a screwdriver to secure the pump, but otherwise, there’s nothing that should give you trouble. Even if you’re a novice builder, you will have no issues installing this cooler.

The build quality of the DeepCool Castle 280EX is excellent. Its 140mm fans even feature a rubber housing to help with noise dampening, and its thin, aluminum radiator boasts extra skived fins for increased cooling efficiency. All of its components feel sturdy in your hand, indicating the quality of this AIO cooler.

In terms of performance, the DeepCool Castle 280EX proved a worthy battle companion, though it falls just short of topping the charts. In a test performed on an Intel Core i9 at the base clock, the Castle 280EX kept the PC at 34°C at idle. Under load, the PC’s temperatures rose to 73°C.

When the processor was overclocked to 5 GHz, the DeepCool Castle 280EX kept temperatures at a safe 81°C. In every test, the DeepCool trailed the best-in-class ARCTIC Liquid Freezer II 280 by about 4°C. This indicates that the DeepCool Castle 280EX is a high-performance cooler that can hang with the very best.

Acoustically, the Castle 280EX is similarly impressive. Again, it’s bested by the ARCTIC ever-so-slightly, but it’s amongst the quietest 280mm AIO coolers on the market. The rubber fan housing no doubt plays a big part in keeping the noise levels low.

Overall, the DeepCool Castle 280EX is an excellent cooler at a reasonable price. It offers some of the best cooling capabilities in its class, and it manages to stay quiet and unobtrusive even under heavy loads. If you’re looking for a high-quality 280mm AIO cooler at a good price, the DeepCool Castle 280EX is a great choice.

6. NZXT Kraken X63

Radiator Dimensions: 315 x 143 x 30mm / 12.4 x 5.6 x 1.2” | Fans Dimensions: 140 x 140 x 26mm / 5.5 x 5.5 x 1” | Fan Speed: 500 – 1800 RPM (PWM) | Noise Volume: 21 – 38 dBA | Warranty: 6 years

NZXT Kraken X63

REASONS TO BUY

  • Stylish appearance
  • Great cooling performance
  • High-quality construction
  • 6-year warranty
  • Convenient CAM software
  • Easy to install

REASONS TO AVOID

  • Premium price
  • Outperformed by others in its class
  • No RGB

Our Rating:   9.4/10

Like all of Kraken’s X-series, the X63 comes with the same stunning infinity mirror design on its pump head. These are some of the best and most unique-looking coolers on the market today, and this cooler is no different.

Also boasting RGB lights, this cooler is simply stunning. It’s one of the best-looking AIO coolers in its class. Unfortunately, the 140mm fans do not feature RGB lights at all. So if you’re looking for the full RGB experience, you’ll have to shell out a few extra bucks to get the RGB version of this cooler.

Kraken’s CAM software gives you total control over the pump and fan speeds in addition to customizing the RGB lights. You’ll have access to every setting and customization option without having to mess around in the BIOS. CAM is one of the best-designed and user-friendly pieces of AIO cooler software.

Ease of installation is another mark in favor of this Kraken cooler. You’ll be able to install this AIO completely without tools and even refer to the included physical manual. The Kraken X63 prizes versatility and features mounting brackets for both Intel and AMD machines, as well as a rotating pump block. If your tower can accommodate its 280mm radiator, you’ll have no problems installing this cooler.

Continuing on the versatility trend, the Kraken X63 is compatible with all of the most common processors. The Intel LGA 1700, 1200, 1151, 1150, 1155, 1156, 1366, 2011, 2011-3, and 2066 are all supported, as well as the AMD AM5, AM4, AM3, AM2, TR4, and STRX4. Mounting kits for the Threadrippers are not included with the cooler, however.

While there’s a lot to like about the Kraken X63, its performance is only average when compared to other high-end 280mm AIO coolers. It was outperformed marginally by the Corsair iCUE H115i Elite Capellix in a test on an Intel Core i9, but it still managed to cool the machine to 10°C over ambient at idle and 36°C under load.

When the Intel was overclocked to 4.5 GHz, the X63 chilled the PC to 9°C over ambient at idle and 60°C under load. These are still pretty impressive numbers, even if they’re not quite the best in class.

The Kraken X63’s main attraction is its incredible infinity mirror pump head. If you’re a fan of the design, this cooler is the one for you. In addition to the striking appearance, you’ll get support for customization via the included CAM software in an easy-to-install package.

While its cooling performance may be a notch below the best, it’s still incredibly capable and can handle overclocked machines. Like its Z63 cousin, this is one of the most visually striking AIO coolers on the market in 2024.

7. Thermaltake Floe Dual Riing RGB 280 TT Premium Edition

Radiator Dimensions: 280 x 120 x 27 mm / 11 x 4.7 x 1.1” | Fans Dimensions: 140 x 140 x 25 mm / 5.5 x 5.5 x 1” | Fan Speed: 500 – 1400 RPM (PWM) | Noise Volume: 19.8 – 27.2 dBA | Warranty: 2 years

Thermaltake Floe Dual Riing RGB 280 TT Premium Edition

REASONS TO BUY

  • Great cooling performance
  • High-quality build
  • Included RGB controller
  • PWM controlled fans
  • Best RGB implementation
  • Plenty of customization
  • Easy to install

REASONS TO AVOID

  • Only a 2-year warranty
  • Higher price

Our Rating:   9.3/10

Those looking for a full RGB experience will love the Thermaltake Floe Dual Riing RGB 280 TT Premium Edition. It features vibrant addressable RGB LEDs on its pump head and both of its fans.

Marketed toward the enthusiast crowd who will fully appreciate the RGB lighting, this is a lovely-looking 280mm cooler. Its RGB implementation is some of the best on the market and is fully customizable with the Riing Plus software that comes included with the cooler.

In addition to changing the light colors, Riing Plus also lets you control the fan speed and pump speed. There’s also a companion app available on IOS and Android, so you will be able to control everything with your smartphone.

However, the customization software isn’t very user-friendly. Changing cooling profiles will require you to do a full system restart, so swapping profiles on the fly is simply not in the cards. Also, the app only controls the lights and not the fan or pump speed, so its use is pretty narrow.

This cooler is almost identical to its slightly smaller cousin, the Floe Dual Riing RGB 240 TT. Because of this, it offers a similar level of cooling performance. The 240mm cooler was amongst the highest performing coolers in its class and even took on the Kraken X62, so the slightly larger radiator on the 280mm Floe Riing allows it to provide even better performance. It will offer suitable cooling for powerful, overclocked PCs.

Another thing this cooler shares with its 240mm version is its simple installation. Like most AIO coolers, it’s simple enough to mount the cooler and bolt it into place. However, the shorter length of its hoses may cause some minor installation issues, rendering certain orientations impossible inside your tower.

Compatibility-wise, the Thermaltake Floe Dual Riing RGB 280 TT Premium Edition leaves no major player behind. It readily interfaces with the Intel LGA 2066, 2011-3, 2011, 1366, 1200, 1156, 1155, 1151, 1150, 1200, and 1700, in addition to the AMD AMD TR4, AM5, AM4, FM2, FM1, AM4, AM3+, AM3, AM2+, and AM2.

If you’re in the market for a 280mm cooler and want the best RGB experience you can find, you should definitely consider the Thermaltake Floe Dual Riing RGB 280 TT Premium Edition. It offers solid performance in addition to the full RGB package. While the customization software is lackluster, there’s a lot to love about this cooler.

8. Cooler Master MasterLiquid ML280 Mirror

Radiator Dimensions: 318 x 140 x 27 mm / 10.9 x 4.7 x 1.1” | Fans Dimensions: 140 x 140 x 25 mm / 5.5 x 5.5 x 1” | Fan Speed: 650 – 1400 RPM (PWM) | Noise Volume: 10 – 27 dBA | Warranty: 2 years

Cooler Master MasterLiquid ML280 Mirror

REASONS TO BUY

  • Nice aesthetics
  • Quality construction
  • Bright RGB on the pump head
  • PWM controlled fans
  • Great cooling performance
  • Stays quiet under load

REASONS TO AVOID

  • Only a 2-year warranty
  • Not the best in terms of performance

Our Rating:   9.2/10

While mirrored pump heads have been Kraken’s calling card for a while, Cooler Master enters the fray offering the Cooler Master MasterLiquid ML280 Mirror.

Infinity mirror pump heads are always beautiful. They provide an elevated aesthetic to the look of any tower, especially when they’re covered in RGB LEDs, like in the case of this cooler. While it’s not a complete RGB setup because the fans don’t feature RGB lights of any kind, it’s still a stunning design.

The quality of the Cooler Master’s components is quite nice. Altogether, it feels sturdy in your hands, especially the copper pump head. The grooves in the faceplate of the pump head ensure thermal paste application will be a simple process. Its hoses are also sleeved in nylon, which is much more visually appealing than rubber and offers protection which increases their longevity.

While installation of the MasterLiquid ML280 Mirror isn’t a total chore, it’s not quite as simple as other AIO coolers. It does feature thumbscrews on the fan bracket for painless installation there, but mounting the pump head clips is a more stressful affair due to the small size of the screws. It’s likely you’ll need a screwdriver; this cooler doesn’t get to boast about toolless installation like some others can.

It’s compatible with a wide range of sockets; almost every major socket type is supported. This includes the Intel 2066, 2011-v3, 2011, 1700, 1200, 1151, 1150, 1155, and 1156. AMD support includes the AM5, AM4, AM3+, AM3, AM2+, AM2, FM2+, FM2, and FM1. Notably absent is support for the AMD TR4 and STRX4.

As for cooling performance, the ML280 Mirror appears to be around the middle of the pack. In a test performed on an Intel i7 overclocked to 5 GHz, the Cooler Master MasterLiquid ML280 Mirror cooled the PC to 26°C over ambient at idle and 65°C over ambient under load.

This test doesn’t paint this Cooler Master in the most positive of lights, but it really is a capable performer and suitable for almost any cooling job. It was notably outperformed by a few 280mm coolers, but raw cooling performance numbers don’t do this AIO cooler justice on their own.

Acoustic performance is where this cooler really shines. It outputs only 10 dBa at idle and 25 dBa under load. It was one of the quietest coolers tested.

While the Cooler Master MasterLiquid ML280 Mirror isn’t the most robust cooler on the market, it is certainly amongst the best looking with its infinity mirror pump head and RGB implementation.

It’s also a quiet performer, boasting some of the best acoustic measurements in its class. If you want your AIO to be seen but not heard, this is the ideal cooler for you. It’s also quite a bargain, given its lower price point. While there are better cooling performers out there, the ML280 Mirror offers the same mirror-top pump head the Krakens offer at a more affordable price.
