Our Rating:   9.8/10

The Corsair Virtuoso RGB Wireless is one of those gaming headsets that functions incredibly well as an all-rounder. While it may not be at the top of its line in any one particular category, it doesn’t fail miserably in ways that would otherwise turn you off from getting it for yourself.

For instance, microphone quality. Marketed as a broadcast-grade mic, it features Omnidirectional, high-sensitivity clarity to ensure you’re in constant, stable contact with your teammates. While usually, a detachable microphone may come at a cost to quality, Corsair handles it with panache, delivering a product that doesn’t skimp on quality while expanding on versatility.

One of the mic’s drawbacks, however, is some level of incompatibility. There’s a bug going around that makes the microphone nonfunctional when paired with Windows 10, which may severely hamper your enjoyment of the headset.

While there is a fix for the issue, there’s still the entire hassle of having to jump through hoops to repair your brand-new headset. Thankfully it’s not a hardware issue, at the very least.

Wireless headsets tend to have more difficulty with maintaining clean sound, which can be obnoxious when you’re trying to game at peak performance. While the Virtuoso does, on occasion, run into similar issues, as virtually any wireless headset will, it still manages to keep a consistent reputation for high-fidelity audio with minimal hindrances.

To further complement the audio capabilities, Corsair’s iCue software allows you to manage and adjust your sound levels to suit your specifications. More bass, less treble, more volume, whatever you need is controllable through the included software. Admittedly, tampering with audio here can be more trouble than it’s worth on occasion, and it may be limited in application, but it’ll still do its job for you just fine.

One of the strongest points of the Virtuoso is its noise-canceling properties. While worn, there’s no other world than the game. No sound outside can disturb you, leaving you to be fully immersed in 7.1 surround sound, where you can pinpoint enemy movements to their very footsteps.

Comfort levels for the Virtuoso seem to be one of its weak points. While the headband cushion seems to conform to most heads fairly well, the earcups are a shortcoming. They’re shallow, leading to discomfort over long periods of time, and tend to clamp a bit too tightly to the sides of the gamer’s head.

If just a bit more effort were put into making the build quality as thoroughly designed as the mic and audio aspects of this headset, it would be a golden choice.

A part of that discomfort may just be the fact that it needs to be broken in first, however. Not everything fresh out of the box is going to conform to you perfectly. For the build quality as a whole, it’s quite nicely and durably designed. It’s light, strong, and resilient, matched by a battery life that lasts for up to 20 hours.

Assuming you’re able to break it into your desired comfort level, the Corsair Virtuoso RGB Wireless is an excellent choice for gamers looking to up their FPS performance. The mic delivers excellent voice commands, matched with audio that keeps you fully immersed and essentially delivers on all the tenets that make you able to be the best possible teammate in a match.

2. Beyerdynamic MMX 300

Frequency Response: 5 – 35.000Hz | Microphone Frequency Response: 30 – 18.000Hz | Driver Size: N/A | Connection Type: 3.5mm | Weight: 0.73 lbs / 332g

Beyerdynamic MMX 300

REASONS TO BUY

  • Precise and clean audio
  • Excellent microphone
  • Highly comfortable earpads
  • Clean design
  • Comes with a hard case

REASONS TO AVOID

  • Not as durable
  • Premium price

Our Rating:   9.7/10

At a first glance, you might not expect a whole lot from this gaming headset. The Beyerdynamic MMX 300 doesn’t opt for the colorful flair that many other competitors seem to attract, instead taking on a more practical approach to their product. But does the MMX 300’s German engineering make it as good of a product as it possibly can be?

There are three pivotal features that a good gaming headset has to nail to be the cream of the crop: audio, communication, and comfort. Starting with the audio quality, you’ll be content with a high-quality performance from the MMX 300. While the bass may be slightly off-kilter for some people’s comfort, the precise and clean nature of the sound quality is near pristine.

It should be noted, however, that there’s some trouble with audio stability. On occasion, the MMX 300 is prone to audio cutouts and dead spots that may be the result of trying to adjust the volume control. While trying to exert full control over the volume is imperfect, these issues are few and far between and shouldn’t be a frequent issue.

The microphone, however, is an excellent piece of hardware. Frankly, you’ll be hard-pressed to find a truly perfect mic on virtually any gaming headset, considering it’s a sensitive piece of hardware, but Beyerdynamic’s dedication to function performs here. The flexible wire arm makes it easy to adjust to suit your mic preferences while gaming. Loud, clear, and ideal for communication, it’s one of the stronger points of the MMX 300.

Comfort and design is a different story. Overall, the MMX 300 is not poorly designed. It’s comfortable, made from decent materials, and fits most sized heads, but the earcups don’t fit well with large ears.

While the pads are actually extremely comfortable, the design overall seems to have some trouble with quality. The leatherette flakes are separate from the frame and don’t seem to stay as well connected to the product as they probably should.

So far, for function, the MMX 300 performs very well, and that’s what Beyerdynamic excels at: function over fashion. Its minimalist design helps contribute to the overall comfort as well, creating a lightweight build that can be worn for long periods of time… so long as you replace the earcups with something a little more form-fitting.

While the MMX 300 delivers high-quality performance, it’s difficult to tell whether or not it performs as much as its worth. Frankly, the MMX 300 is expensive, and you’d expect to receive the highest quality product for how much you’re sinking into it.

Now, determining quality is often subjective, and many gamers may find that it goes above and beyond any other competing products. As it stands, however, its cost-competitiveness compared to other gaming headsets is uncertain.

For the gamer that values function over fashion above all else, the Beyerdynamic MMX 300 is the ideal choice to add to your station.

3. Razer Nari Ultimate

Frequency Response: 20 – 20.000Hz | Microphone Response: 100 – 6.500Hz | Driver Size: 50mm | Connection Type: 3.5mm or USB wireless receiver | Weight: 0.95lbs / 430g | Battery Life: Up to 20 hours

Razer Nari Wireless

REASONS TO BUY

  • Unmatchable immersion
  • Excellent surround sound
  • Retractable microphone
  • On-ear volume controls
  • Highly comfortable with cooling gel
  • Wireless

REASONS TO AVOID

  • Requires EQ tuning
  • Bulky
  • Falls short on the mic quality
  • Premium price

Our Rating:   9.6/10

Razer has long been a well-known brand within the gaming sphere that’s built a reputation for itself: attractive, high-quality products. The Razer Nari Ultimate is only the latest in their Nari headset line, which means it has to prove it’s worth the price hike and that it can deliver the most potent gameplay support possible.

If there’s one thing for certain, above all else, that the Nari Ultimate nails, it’s immersion. Pure, immersive sound and vibration that sets you in the middle of the game, filtering out all the rest of the world.

The Hypersense Haptic Feedback provides the most intense, ever-present sensation you could ever hope to get out of the game, informing you with positional accuracy for any nearby footsteps, explosions, gunfire, and more to keep your battlefield senses and presences constantly tuned.

The haptics technology combined with THX Spatial 7.1 surround sound alone makes this product a viable purchase to round out your competitive rig. For communication, however, there are fewer glowing remarks. While that’s not to say that the microphone itself is bad, and being retractable is convenient, it’s not exactly the most stellar piece of technology the Nari Ultimate has to offer.

Something that’s a bit obnoxious when it comes to the sound quality, however, is the necessity for EQ tuning to nail the perfect sound levels. It’s a finicky piece of technology, so you’ll have to mess around with it for some time before finding your comfort zone. It’s not the worst thing in the world, but it could go for some adjustments to suit the customer more.

As for noise canceling, that’s simply not where these headphones shine. Sure, their sheer bulk should shunt out the outside world well enough, but if you have loud neighbors or roommates, you might not be so cut off from outside interference. That, and sometimes your mic can pick up some unwanted background noise, which can be a bit annoying for your teammates.

You’ll also have to keep an eye on battery life. There are a lot of features that consume the Nari Ultimate’s battery life, so your long-term gameplay is determined by how much you have running. For the Nari running its basic program, it can last up to 20 hours fully charged. If you’re using both the haptics and the RGB Synapse, however, you can expect something closer to six or eight.

Despite its clunky design, the Nari Ultimate is surprisingly comfortable. Gel-cooled earcups keep your head from overheating, while suspended headband cushion and swiveling earcups make the headset easily and comfortably conform to your head. By design, it doesn’t constrict too much, and the large earcups prevent pinching throughout game sessions of any length.

Admittedly, the Razer Nari Ultimate probably isn’t the perfect gaming headset you’re looking for. It falls a little short on mic quality and sound tuning, and although it claims it works with the Xbox One, you’re probably better off keeping it as a PS4 and PC-exclusive item.

However, the Nari Ultimate does have some fantastic features that fully immerse you in the game while remaining comfortable for any head. For gamers that want to be as present as possible within their game, aware of their surroundings to a fine point, then this is the one for you.

4. Cooler Master MH670

Frequency Response: 15 – 25.000Hz / 3.5mm mode, 20 – 20.000Hz / 2.4G mode | Microphone Response: 50 – 18.000Hz | Driver Size: 50mm | Connection Type: 3.5mm or USB wireless receiver | Weight: 0.82lbs / 347g | Battery Life: Up to 20 hours

Cooler Master MH670

REASONS TO BUY

  • Great audio quality
  • Convenient on-ear controls
  • Comfortable for all-day gaming
  • Clear and loud microphone
  • Fair price
  • Wireless

REASONS TO AVOID

  • Occasional microphone bleeding
  • Fragile construction

Our Rating:   9.4/10

The Cooler Master MH670 is another one of those gaming headsets that’s destined to become one of your reliable standbys.

You may not find that it’s one of the highest-performing options on the market, but you can be sure that it’ll cover all of your bases while minimizing weaknesses. In the end, you want a gaming headset that delivers what you need when you need it.

As an all-rounder, audio is one of the first determinants of this product’s quality. Complemented with a full array of control situated on your earcups, the sound quality delivered by this product is divine. However, due to the cord design, you may find some audio hissing depending on where you plug your AUX cables into.

Though the MH670 doesn’t boast the same level of noise isolation that you’d hope for, that doesn’t mean that it’s completely vulnerable to outside distractions. The design of the earcups, as well as the quality of the speakers, contribute to a comfortable level of game noise that keeps your head in the game without letting any distractions get to you. While other products have superior noise cancellation, to be sure, the MH670 doesn’t exactly make you suffer in that category either.

For the microphone, you’re getting a fairly great deal. It’s an omnidirectional boom mic, which is more than capable of picking up any relevant communication you need to deliver in the midst of a competitive FPS match.

However, you may experience some bleeding effects on rare occasions, which has an impact when you’re trying to have a clear line of communication with your teammates. It’s troublesome but not unsolvable with some software tinkering.

By and far, however, the greatest appeal of the Cooler Master MH670 is its comfort. In nearly all cases, the MH670 has performed above and beyond in ensuring its users are comfortable for long periods of time, focusing on high-level design for form, padding, and material. It fits snugly on your head while keeping sufficient padding available for long-term gaming sessions.

But let’s talk about the MH670’s one big negative. Despite its quality construction and excellent scores, it just can’t really seem to stay in one piece. Suffice it to say the MH670 has some durability issues that need to be addressed by Cooler Master.

Parts break, screws come loose, earcups don’t stay attached, and overall tends to come off as a bit more fragile than a headset of its pricing should afford to be. If you take care of it, you should be alright, but that’s no perfect guarantee for overall build quality.

The Cooler Master MH670 is going to be one of the most comfortable gaming headsets you’ll be able to find. Its microphone and audio capabilities are reliable, ensuring you can cooperate to the best of your ability without hampering your FPS playstyle. The only thing to watch out for is its fragility. For those gamers who need a gaming headset that they can wear like a cloud, the Cooler Master MH670 is a prime choice.

5. HyperX Cloud Alpha S

Frequency Response: 13 – 27.000Hz | Microphone Response: 50 – 18.000 | Driver Size: 50mm | Connection Type: 3.5mm | Weight: 0.7lbs / 321g

HyperX Cloud Alpha S

REASONS TO BUY

  • Perfect sound isolation
  • Precise surround sound
  • Highly comfortable
  • Swappable earpads
  • Competitive pricing
  • Decent microphone

REASONS TO AVOID

  • Bleeding, fragile microphone
  • No padding on the inside of the cup
  • Short cable

Our Rating:   9.3/10

HyperX tends to make fairly popular yet still affordably priced gaming headsets that vibe with a large audience. While they’ve seen some great success with more popular lines, no company has a 100% success record with their products. However, when it comes to the HyperX Cloud Alpha S, you’ll find a solid, quality gaming headset to suit your needs.

Let’s talk about the sonic experience. As far as noise canceling goes, you’ll be in a world of your own. The type of isolation this gaming headset provides for you helps maintain the immersion, concentration, and overall compatibility of your chosen FPS with your gaming sessions. No intrusive outside noises or distractions can break your experience here.

This isolation is further enhanced by the HyperX 7.1 Surround Sound system, which helps accurately pinpoint any in-game sounds that’ll key you into enemy positions and/or fire. With bass adjustment sliders on each earcup, you can alter your audio on the fly. However, you may find you’ll have one issue: mic bleeding.

Up front, the Cloud Alpha S doesn’t have the best mic setup in the world. While it’s super convenient, with a detachable mic that you can remove for easier storage and travel, it’s not really the most durable part of the build.

The mic tends to be fragile, easily lost, and can suffer from some bleeding as it picks up noise from your speakers. The overall vocal quality isn’t too shabby, so you can communicate well with your teammates, but it’s not the most optimized part of the headset.

One fun aspect that helps balance out the headset is a convenient audio control dongle. For starters, the Alpha S isn’t wireless, which means you need to have a direct line to your rig for it to function, though that’s not a bad thing.

What it allows is the included dongle on the cable to control the game and chat audio. Whether you need to quickly adjust the in-game volume or shut down that screaming kid on your team, having that level of control at your fingertips is a bonus.

There aren’t too many red marks when it comes to comfort for the Alpha S. The headband padding wraps nicely around your head, transitioning into swivel earcups for optimal adjustment to your head. HyperX doesn’t go too overboard in design, but what ain’t broke doesn’t need fixing. The earcups are breathable, providing all the comfort and airflow you need to stay cool for the entirety of the game.

The worst problem you’ll run into comfort-wise is some constriction. The audio drivers can be a bit too close for comfort, depending on the user, and may rub up against your ears. In the short term, it isn’t a problem, but when you’re gaming for hours on end, even slight discomforts spiral out of control. The pads are swappable, however, which means you may be able to find other earcups that fit a bit better.

The Alpha S is a good gaming headset for playing your average game and certainly keeps you in focus for all in-game sounds, but communication can be a bit unreliable. Sure, the mic is replaceable, but how often do you really want to spend more money to replace hardware? Hopefully, never at all, but it’s something to consider. On all other accounts, however, the HyperX Cloud Alpha S scores well. It’s a highly versatile, comfortable gaming headset that fits most varieties of gamers.

6. Audio-Technica ATH-G1

Frequency Response: 5 – 40.000Hz | Microphone Response: 30 – 20.000Hz | Driver Size: 45mm | Connection Type: 3.5mm | Weight: 0.57lbs / 257g

Audio-Technica ATH-G1

REASONS TO BUY

  • Attractive, light-weight design
  • Superb audio quality
  • Excellent noise isolation
  • Clear, detachable microphone
  • Affordable

REASONS TO AVOID

  • Mic quality issues
  • Fragile headset

Our Rating:   9.2/10

The Audio-Technica ATH-G1 goes a bit more stylized than some of the other options on this list, overall resulting in a fairly attractive gaming headset. The question is: does its appearance match up to its performance?

The sound quality is superb. While it may not feature the same level of audio that gives you the full immersive effect, such as 3D localization or haptics, the sheer high-fidelity makes up for it. No distortion, no lack of bass or treble, just pure audio bliss. That helps make it the ideal choice for an FPS, where every bit of noise minutiae counts when you’re in the heat of battle.

That sound quality, combined with some excellent noise isolation, compensates for the overtly immersive experience that other products aim for. In the end, the difference in gameplay, whether you have pinpoint accurate noise versus a broad stereo system, may not even impact your gameplay that much. At that point, it becomes somewhat opinionated.

Thankfully, the ATH-G1 is a wired headset, which sets it apart from its wireless kin. Wireless versions have some difficulty connecting and staying connected to your devices. So long as you have a good wire, however, you shouldn’t have the same problems, leaving this gaming headset to be widely versatile between all your electronic devices. However, the wire is short. That does restrict your full range of movement, which can be annoying.

The detachable mic, in the instance of the ATH-G1, doesn’t serve its function quite as well as similar products do. It’s convenient, yes, and makes it easier to transition the headset into decent headphones for movies or music, but the quality of the mic itself could be improved.

When it works properly, it picks up all your communication with crystal clear reception but frequently suffers from a lack of depth and presence in-game. When you’re fighting alongside your teammates, you don’t want to be a grating voice in their ear, and every syllable needs to be delivered with punctuality and clarity.

Overall, while it is a comfortable, lightweight fit, they come off feeling a little cheaply made. Audio-Technica could have put more effort into ensuring that the ATH-G1 was more durable and able to withstand some stress and long-term use.

For those gamers who are interested in a reliable wired headset that keeps your head in the game, the Audio-Technica ATH-G1 serves its purpose as a high-grade but affordable gaming headset option.

7. HyperX Cloud Orbit

Frequency Response: 10 – 50.000Hz | Microphone Response: N/A | Driver Size: 100mm | Connection Type: 3.5mm or USB Type-A / Type-C | Weight: 0.81lbs / 368g

HyperX Cloud Orbit

REASONS TO BUY

  • Subtle, elegant design
  • Detachable, clear microphone
  • Premium audio quality
  • 3D audio localization
  • Highly comfortable
  • Multi-platform

REASONS TO AVOID

  • Construction quality issues
  • Fragile
  • Expensive

Our Rating:   9.1/10

The HyperX Cloud Orbit is another one of those products that prioritize the actual functionality of the device over the detailed aesthetics of the piece as a whole. That’s not to say the Cloud Orbit is ugly by any measure, but it doesn’t exactly distinguish itself along the terms of design. It simply looks plain. What’s important isn’t how it looks, however, but instead how it works.

The microphone quality for the Cloud Orbit is actually surprisingly effective. While detachable mics are often a design choice that’s more for convenience than superior function, you’ll find that as long as you treat it well, it’ll maintain a clear, stable performance. On average, there’s virtually no communication drop-off or bleeding effects from the speakers that would normally interfere with your team play.

As an added bonus, the mic comes with a built-in pop filter, which helps filter out those sharp sounds that would otherwise “pop” in-game. Smoothing out speech patterns helps establish clarity of communication and increases your ability to play as a competitive member of the team.

Though the microphone seems to be of higher quality construction, the speakers themselves are not quite as up to par as you might hope. The lion’s share of your time using the Cloud Orbit will yield excellent results, creating an immersive, compelling audio atmosphere. The more time spent using it, however, may end up revealing some cracks in the headset’s design.

As a whole, the Cloud Orbit is designed for minimized distortion, amplified pinpoint sound location, and generating a 3D audio localization that allows you to hear in-game sounds coming from any direction. These are great features, but their implementation is a little challenging. The 3D localization, rather than being immersive, can be distracting for some gamers, pulling their attention away from the game. For just sheer sound quality, however, you can expect premium performance.

Out of the box, however, the audio tweaking and EQ is fairly well-balanced for immediate play. If it isn’t quite as attuned to your liking, HyperX’s Audeze technology affords you full control over your audio customization, allowing you to synchronize your in-game audio perfectly with your gaming preferences.

The Cloud Orbit does, unfortunately, suffer from some fairly common durability problems. Parts of it frequently begin failing within a year, while others arrive completely inoperable. If there was a more reliably guaranteed proof of quality for the Cloud Orbit, it’d rank better, but sadly due to manufacturing error and subpar build quality, the Cloud Orbit struggles to keep pace with comparable gaming headsets for the same price.

While the Cloud Orbit isn’t perfect, it still handles extremely well in the competitive scene. The microphone is great, the speakers are excellent and come supported with superb EQ, and the overall build quality is comfortable and form-fitting. Though the parts’ construction and durability could use some work, for any gamer looking for a simple, by-the-book gaming headset to bump their game with, the HyperX Cloud Orbit is a solid fit.

8. Logitech G933 Artemis Spectrum

Frequency Response: 20 – 20.000Hz | Microphone Response: 100 – 20.000Hz | Driver Size: 40mm | Connection Type: 3.5mm or USB wireless receiver | Weight: 0.8lbs / 366g | Battery Life: Up to 12 hours

Logitech G933 Artemis Spectrum

REASONS TO BUY

  • Attractive design
  • Comfortable, breathable materials
  • Superb audio quality
  • Convenient on-ear controls
  • Fantastic microphone

REASONS TO AVOID

  • Slides around on the head
  • Short wireless range
  • Pricey

Our Rating:   9.0/10

The Logitech G933 Artemis Spectrum is among the more visually stunning gaming headsets on this list, to be certain. However, aesthetics are subjective; what isn’t prone to the individual’s interpretation is the pure build quality and features that a powerful, effective gaming headset has to offer its users. Let’s see if the Logitech G933 measures up.

The biggest question off the top of your head when taking a look at the G933 might be, “Is it comfortable?” It’s a bit of a gimmicky design, so does it actually serve its function? The answer is: mostly. As far as sheer padding is concerned, there’s nothing better to protect your head with. They’re gentle, made with breathable materials, and can easily last for long sessions without you even noticing.

They’re flawed in one way when it comes to comfort, however, and that’s fitting. While they can be a little snug, the G933 has the tendency to slide around, depending on the head size, which is inconvenient if you’re an expressive player. Having your headset shuffle at inopportune times can be catastrophic and downright distracting.

When you’re looking at the highest quality audio experience, you want to feel like you’re practically living within the game. That means precise audio cues, immersive noise canceling, and delicately integrated sound layers for full awareness and analysis. Keep in mind, however, that surround sound is not available on consoles, only PC.

The G933 just happens to tick these boxes. While the headset’s speakers are highly functional for all levels of competitive play, with even and clear environmental sounds being delivered in surround sound, you have to stay fairly close to your chosen console for optimal sound quality. The range just isn’t that impressive, and the noise canceling is functional, if not the most top-tier feature you’ll find on the market. Plus, there’s a chance that the audio will fade in and out, which is a nasty mark.

That being said, the G933 comes with a variety of customizable control buttons located on the earcup itself to assign macros for complex in-game commands, which is especially convenient for games that come with lots of controls. For convenience, it also comes included with audio mixing, so you can seamlessly plug up to 3 devices into the headset for simultaneous use while gaming.

The microphone, as a final touchstone, works fantastically. Although its noise canceling capabilities aren’t anything to write home about, its sensitivity is designed to accurately pick up any and all vocal sounds to effectively and clearly communicate with your team. Plus, if you ever need to mute yourself, all you need to do is flip your mic up.

When you look at the Logitech G933 in regards to whether or not it’s the optimal choice for a First-Person-Shooter, the answer is probably… not. It will serve you well, certainly, but its design is much more befitting other games that value immediate control and customization for widespread use. Even so, the Logitech G933 is an excellent choice if you happen to play a wide variety of games and are looking for the versatility to accurately handle them all.

9. HyperX CloudX Stinger

Frequency Response: 18 – 23.000Hz | Microphone Response: 50 – 18.000Hz | Driver Size: 50mm | Connection Type: 3.5mm | Weight: 0.6lbs / 275g

HyperX Cloud Stinger

REASONS TO BUY

  • Substantial value for the money
  • Great audio quality
  • Surprisingly well-performing mic
  • Comfortable
  • Long-lasting build
  • Fantastic budget choice

REASONS TO AVOID

  • Quiet
  • No smart features

Our Rating:   8.9/10

Maybe you don’t have the funds to blow on an expensive piece of gaming hardware. As nice as it would be to have any of the options on this list, money may be tight, or you just don’t think that you need all those extra bells and whistles. Sometimes, you just need something that fits your budget.

Speaking plainly, the HyperX CloudX Stinger is an incredible value for performance vs. cost. Starting with audio quality, you’re near guaranteed a fantastic experience in sheer presence and immersion. Directional speakers deliver pinpoint, accurate audio, keeping your head on a swivel for anything coming your direction with optimal reaction time.

The Stinger does fall fairly short on volume levels, however. While the audio itself sounds good, it comes off as much quieter than most people prefer when gaming. This can be fixed by buying a supplementary amp to compensate, but at that point, you’ve kinda gone off-budget, which definitely drags down the overall rating for this product.

By comparison, however, the microphone actually functions incredibly well for what the headset costs overall. While you shouldn’t expect to have the type of crystal clear contact you get with higher-priced headsets, the Stinger doesn’t suffer from excessive bleeding, echo, or loss of communication that plague similar headsets. Chances are no one’s going to notice any communication quality disparities, leaving you to openly and easily stay in touch with your teammates mid-game.

Plus, the microphone is flip-to-mute, making it easier to cancel noise when you need to, just in case you need to talk with the people around you. While gaming, however, the noise cancellation features ensure quality immersion.

The Stinger, to match its quality audio and microphone, is a quality build that focuses on both durability and comfort. The speakers swivel 90 degrees, the padding is made from leatherette that doesn’t compromise the comfort of your ears or skull, and it stays just snug enough that you can play for hours and hardly even notice you’re wearing the headset. HyperX didn’t try to reinvent the wheel; they just stuck to the fundamentals and capitalized on what makes a gaming headset good.

If you’re looking for a headset that delivers everything you need without going overboard with features, the HyperX CloudX Stinger is a fantastic budget choice. Even with a lower price tag, the Stinger is arguably just as good, if not better than some higher-priced headsets you’ll find on the market. Also, keep in mind that the Stinger is designed for the Xbox Series X, which means that it won’t work to its full effect, if at all, if you try to use it with your PC.

Our Rating:   8.7/10

The Razer Kraken isn’t a product that’s going to blow you away in any particular department, but you’re getting what amounts to a high-quality headset that undercuts several similar, more expensive competitors. It’s a budget purchase, and while it’s imperfect, it’s still something that gets the job done for you.

Unlike the CloudX Stinger, the Kraken is a versatile piece of hardware that’s usable with any electronic devices you have available. This makes it easier to use and transfer between your preferred game station at the moment without compromising integrity or design.

The speakers, for what you’re paying for them, deliver on what you can expect from them: a pleasing, if somewhat limited, sonic experience. The surround sound features only work with your PC, so the experience isn’t universal to all your devices. Despite that, you’re still getting a welcoming, even, and stable performance from the speakers, keeping gameplay fresh and integrated.

When it comes to volume control, however, the included in-line audio controls are imperfect. Convenient, yes, but the more you adjust the volume slider, the harder it is to find that niche level that works best for you. The mute button works just fine, but the flawed design of the volume wheel is a tad disappointing.

Additionally, the earcups aren’t noise-canceling, meaning you aren’t quite as immersed in the game as you could be. While this primarily is a problem if you live in a noisy environment, being without that sense of isolation can be somewhat distracting when you’re trying to get into the flow of an FPS.

On a similar note, the Kraken’s retractable mic features noise-canceling technology to help secure that clear and present voice without background interference. You may have some trouble with echoing, though that’s an issue that only affects a few of the Kraken products. As well as having some finicky performance regarding mic level volume, the Kraken doesn’t excel in the communication department.

If nothing else, the design and construction of the Kraken are top-notch. The cooling gel earcups keep your head comfortable for hours, matched with a superior padded headband for maximum comfort, and you’ve got yourself a headset that you can wear for any length of a gaming session.

Overall, while the Razer Kraken doesn’t outperform anything on this list, it’s still a great choice for the gamer that’s looking for an affordable, versatile headset they can use with any platform.

  1. After going through all the reviews, I have made my decision to go with the Corsair Virtuoso RGB Wireless! Thanks for pointing out the mic incompatibility issues with windows 10. Luckily being a software issue, I can manage that since I’m good at that. I’ve already started looking for solutions online. Please let me know if you have found some as it would be a great help. I also liked the 20 hours of battery life which is great since I spend hours playing!

  2. I have a gaming internet cafe here and I buy a headset by batch and not individually. There’s usually a discount from the sellers if you buy by a dozen than buying them individually. The first batch that I bought was Badwolf, it’s okay for the average gamers and durable too even though they are made from China. Upon reading this review of yours which is very good, I am considering buying the second batch which will be a replacement to the old batch from Amazon instead of a local online seller in my country. And my first consideration is quality and durability. And among the headsets in the list, I think I’ll go for Corsair Virtuoso RGB Wireless.

  3. Hello Richard – For anyone who is looking for a gaming headset this is a headset shoppers Mecca. A very handy guide indeed. I am a fan of Logitech as I have found their products to be of good quality. So that would have been my first choice. But after viewing this blog, I am going to go with the Corsair Virtuoso RGB Wireless. There’s a big difference in the price but…you get what you pay for—right? Thanks for this opportunity!

  4. Hi! I have just started my acount on Twitch and I am surprised I have people daily following. The number has been increasingly going up and I’m excited. I do need to change my headphones, though. The ones that I have now are useless and besides they’re ugly. I’ll go with your top recommendation, Corsair Virtuoso, to celebrate the success of my Twitch account. Thank you for helping me to choose.

Would you like to follow me on Twitch? Is it OK to place my Twitch username here? I don’t want to do so in case you view my comment as spam so I prefer to ask first.
